União Europeia: História, instituições e política externa

No rescaldo da Segunda Guerra mundial, visando a promoção da paz, estabilidade e prosperidade, originou-se a União Europeia (UE), aliança política e econômica que, atualmente, conta com 27 países europeus. Coadunando com o contexto histórico que permeou sua criação, os primeiros passos da UE visavam o estímulo a cooperação econômica, tornando os Estados- membros economicamente interdependentes e, consequentemente, evitando a eclosão de novos conflitos, compreendendo que a adesão à União Europeia significa a fragmentação de parte da soberania Estatal, a qual a ela é parcialmente disponibilizada, visando a primazia da aliança. Com o passar do tempo, a UE se apresentou como um sistema político em constante evolução, partindo de uma organização essencialmente econômica para uma organização que preza pela coexistência econômica e social dos Estados-membros, zelando pelo Estado de direito, pela democracia representativa e pelos direitos humanos, abrangendo áreas como política externa, segurança e defesa, desenvolvimento e ajuda humanitária, incluindo questões migratórias, mudanças climáticas e meio ambiente, bem como acesso à justiça. Objetivos esses executados com tamanho esmero que proporcionou à União Europeia o recebimento do Prêmio Nobel da Paz, em 2012.
